In a closely watched battle between two Presidio Premier teams preparing for National Cup, Surf's outstanding skills were matched up with Lightning's physical play, leading to a very exciting, intense game, which ending scoreless in regulation. Surf clinched the trophy after Surf's goalie, Nadia Balin, had a star-worthy performance as Surf went up 5-3 in the shootout. Surf's program has really started to deliver on the skills demonstrated by all the players. Surf players have shown why they are always a contender for the top spots in regional play. As one spectator commented that, "Surf always has precise, quick passing, which seems to wear down the opponents." Surf will be traveling to Las Vegas to play in the Las Vegas Cup this coming weekend, where the girls were finalists last year after losing to Hawaii Blitz in the 2009 Vegas Cup. Stars to watch include both goalkeepers Balin and Hanna DeWeese and a new addition to the roster, Daniela Reynoso, who joined the team this last week. Reynoso comes to Surf with two State Cup championships under her belt with previous club teams. Reynoso and existing Surf forwards Valerie Koerber and Dana Dalton are learning to work together and fine-tune their attacks. Midfielders Hannah Gonzalez and McKenna Moriarty are stepping up to control the plays as Valentina Cvrk and Emma Kirschner use blistering speed to attack on the wings. Proving to be one of Coach Hanson's highest utility players on the field is Eva Hernandez, who can deliver unparalleled defense, midfield ball control or attacking striker. Surf has slowly been developing into a powerful team with a national ranking continuing to climb as evidenced by finalist and championship status in many tournaments, including the 2009 Surf Cup, where they fell to Dallas 2-0. Surf is seeking its first National Cup and has started increased training and playing to achieve their very best. The championship team includes the following: Hanna DeWeese, Nadia Balin, Alexus Beaz-Pecoraro, Zoe Bodie, Valentina Cvrk, Dana Dalton, Kiana Daum, Danielle Goad, Hannah Gonzalez, Emma Kirschner, Eva Herrera, Valerie Koerber, Crosby MacKinnon, McKenna Moriarty, Abigail Patterson, Jessica Cable, Madison Wagoner and Daniela Reynoso. Practices are Tuesday and Thursdays in Del Mar Polo Fields and players may come and watch to learn about Surf by contacting Coach Holland at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
